Sachtleben and responsibility

For us, responsibility has three dimensions: The social aspect enjoys equal status with economic and ecological considerations. In the same way as we publish economic data, environmental reports and ecological balances, we are also happy to report on and discuss our social responsibility, both internally and with the outside world.

"We base our actions on the standards and values of our society, and respect the values and beliefs of our partners and associates worldwide. Our dealings with our immediate neighbours must be frank and honest." (Basic principle of Sachtleben Chemie philosophy, 1997)

Our relationship with our social environment - society at large, our immediate associates, and individuals - is guided by tolerance, fairness and openness. The United Nations Organization's "General Declaration of Human Rights" provides the appropriate basis. In parallel to this, we also make our contribution to the worldwide improvement of people's living conditions via our involvement in the "Responsible Care" and "Sustainable Development" programs. In addition, we are committed to the development process outlined in the situation report by the "BDA", the German Employers' Confederation, regarding global codes of priorities and conduct within commercial enterprises.

"All members of staff are encouraged and assisted in the development of their capabilities. This policy is implemented on the basis of mutual understanding and trust in the context of frank and open communication." (Basic principle of Sachtleben Chemie philosophy, 1997)

Our relations with our staff are underpinned by an awareness of our special responsibility. People cannot be split into "the worker" and "the private individual" - their fundamental needs remain the same, whether at work or at home. We have therefore implemented basic principles for our dealings with each other that go well beyond what the law prescribes, and are oriented around internal ethical guidelines.

"We act with responsibility toward society and the environment. The cornerstones of our actions are economy, ecology and social obligation." (Basic principle of Sachtleben Chemie philosophy, 1997)

Only the balanced and harmonized development of all three dimensions is capable of creating the basis for responsible shaping of the future. We're taking an active part.
