The Blanc fixe range: Precision and transparency
High-purity synthetic barium sulfates (Blanc fixe) are used as fillers and extenders in an astonishingly diverse range of plastics. Blanc fixe is precipitated with a defined particle diameter from purified and filtered barium salt and sodium sulfate solutions. Special purification stages, gentle drying conditions and complex grinding operations ensure consistently high quality. All Blanc fixe products are notable for their high purity (pharmacopeia registration), minimal sieve residue, and extra-low abrasion. Thanks to its excellent lightness, Sachtleben's Blanc fixe is internationally accepted as the white standard for spectral photometry.
In translucent plastic sheet, special Blanc fixe grades with precisely defined particle sizes ensure systematic light scatter. In fluorescent-tube shades, for instance, they permit uniform illumination of the surrounding area. Precisely defined particle sizes and geometries are prominent characteristics of all Sachtleben barium sulfate products and thus open the way to even more specialized applications in the plastics field. In injection moulding for the automotive industry, for instance, and in the production of computer housings, the Blanc fixe range of products facilitates removal of the plastic component from the mould, while simultaneously enhancing the material's strength.
Used as a contrast agent in medicine, Blanc fixe XR is important not only for X-ray examination of the gastrointestinal tract: Incorporated as an additive into X-ray opaque plastic objects such as catheters, drainage tubes and cannulae, it renders these implants visible on the X-ray screen. And the tiny plastic components of toys which may be swallowed by children can be rapidly located on the X-ray screen if high-purity barium sulfate has been used as an additive in the masterbatch.

Properties: Blanc fixe N is the standard grade with an average particle diameter of approx. 3 µm and an extremely low salt content. This product is notable for its excellent dispersibility and extremely low oil absorption.
Application: All thermoplastics and elastomers, particularly in applications which must not contain any heavy metals or vulcanization inhibitors. All thermosets (SMBC, BMCB)
