Rutilit: Anti-wear protection and hot-repairs in the blast furnace
We use concentrated sulfuric acid to convert black ore to white titanium dioxide pigments. Against this background, Sachtleben researchers have developed innovative products for use in metallurgy and refractory systems: Rutilit. This novel proprietary product consists of synthetically prepared titanium dioxide-containing materials which are outstandingly suitable for use in the high-temperature zone of the blast furnace in order to reduce wear on its refractory lining. Thanks to its great fineness, extremely good rheology and low abrasive action, Rutilit can be injected into the furnace with the hot blast and thus permits immediate treatment of hot-spots in the hearth. Hot repair of this zone thus becomes possible, permitting extension of the furnace's campaign. Thanks to its systematically adjusted titanium dioxide content and its extreme fineness, Rutilit forms temperature-, corrosion- and erosion-resistant titanium carbonitride compounds in use; these are deposited on the refractory linings. Systematic injection via the tuyeres directly into the endangered areas significantly shortens the period between input and effect.
You can read more about the innovative properties of our Rutilit in the technical article published in the journal "Stahl und Eisen", Edition 8, page 85-90 , Volume 119 (1999), dated August 16, 1999. We have, of course, taken care to arrange for you to be able to order this item online (english, french or german version) or to download it as a pdf file from our server, along with further information on Rutilit.
