Small Particles Take Centre Stage on European Coatings Show

Sachtleben‘s series of lectures offers information about paints and coatings at first hand

The first Nuremberg European Coatings Show on which Sachtleben attends as a German-finish Joint Venture company. With even more know-how and expertise the particle specialists from Duisburg and Pori present novelties and news of small particles. Beside the stand our visitors are invited to get to know our internationally intensified team and our visitor will get much important information about our current product innovations at first hand. Furthermore Sachtleben’s experts will report on actual applications - within the European Coatings Congress as well as in the context of exhibitor lectures.

Please note the following lectures dates for your personal trade show calendar. You will find the Sachtleben stand in hall 7A, stand 413.

PHOTOCATALYTIC ACTIVE TRANSPARENT COATINGS ON METAL SUBSTRATES

The application of a photocatalytic active coating on a metal substrate can be seen as one approach to generate a selfcleaning (or aircleaning) metallic construction part like e.g. a roof part. In order to stay most flexible in terms of colour the photocatalytic function itself should not influence the transparency/colour of the coating. Furthermore especially a sufficient stability of the used binder system towards photoactive TiO2 is a key issue to provide a coating not only having academic character but for real life.

In a joint work of ArcelorMittal/Ocas and Sachtleben a transparent coating for metal substrates with high photocatalytic activity has been developed. The properties of this coating regarding photocatalytic activity, transparency, weatherability, adhesion and corrosion resistance etc. will be presented.

HIGH SECURITY MARKING CONCEPT

Worldwide losses caused by product piracy are estimated at some 300 billion Euro annually and rising. To counteract this creeping trend, and provide permanent and reliable protection for intellectual property, Sachtleben can now supply an innovative marking concept for materials (such as polymers, for example) that is irremovable, offers a high level of anti-copying security, and can be detected only by using special analytical procedures. These particles are suitable for use at the highest (forensic) security level and will be individually adapted to customers’ requirements. The security particles are notable in particular for their chemical and thermal stability. They endure the various processing steps from the raw materials to the finished product, for instance, without harm or modification. The concept available from Sachtleben comprises the individually customized marking substance, plus the appropriate analytical service for the unequivocal identification of marked products. The occurrence of products which do not include this hidden security code enables patent-holders and manufactures to take rapid legal actions against product pirates.

UV-TITAN RM 402 WP – A STEP FORWARD IN INORGANIC LONG TERM UV-PROTECTION

Ultrafine transparent TiO2 (UV-Titan, formerly also known as Hombitec) as inorganic Additive is well known as long term UV-Absorber. But from time to time the application is limited due to a possible milky appearance. The new generation of predispersed Pastes opens new dimensions in terms of transparency. The use of transparent TiO2 becomes now possible in new applications, where transparency was not good enough till now, while in old applications higher concentrations can be used for even improved weatherability.

EASY-GOING PAINT PRODUCTION WITH SACHTLEBEN TIO2 PIGMENTS

Sachtleben and Kemira Pigments formed joint venture in September 2008. Our full product portfolio covers needs of the wide range of decorative industrial paint uses. Our long experience on controlling particle size of TiO2 pigments provides excellent basis to build up new high performance product offers for the most demanding applications. The recent development has focused on optimization of surface treatment and wetting performance especially in waterborne systems. Fast wetting and dispersion process is of key importance for paint producer. Good dispersibility has straight connection to excellent dispersion stability and high optical performance. Our new TiO2 product concept will be presented.

BLANC FIXE MICRO PLUS: EXTENSION OF AN EVERGREEN

Blanc fixe micro is probably the most well known synthetic barium sulfate world wide. Among Sachtleben’s full range of barium sulfates from 10µm down to 20nm Blanc fixe micro’s 0.7µm seem to be the optimized symbiosis of gloss and haze on the one hand and ease of dispersion or handling on the other hand.

But „The good is the enemy of the best“. So, after more than a decade Blanc fixe micro PLUS is on its way to carry on that baton, not as a substitute but as an extension within the same family, shoulder to shoulder.

Blanc fixe micro PLUS counts for even better dispersibility and faster (co-) grinding during processing, higher gloss retention at well known particle size of 0.7µm and optimized systemic interaction, leading to for example optimized settling behavior. All in all micro PLUS is the great solution to match economic and technological requirements with small particles.
